Quays and Worcester

Jericho Wharf has been acquired by Worcester College, Oxford and people seem on the whole pleased. I can’t imagine why. This is the College that bans “tourists”, i.e. the general public, from its grounds unless they live in OX1 or OX2 (two of the most of the most affluent postcodes in the country) or pay for a guided tour.

Worcester’s buildings were restored in the 1960s with a grant of £130,000 (about £2.5M in today’s money) from the Oxford Historic Buildings Fund. I don’t know how much of that was public money, but I would bet quite a lot. If they hate the general public so much, they should give the money back.
